Abstract

Rapid testing of the levels of the constituent components of citronella oil is essential in modern industry. This research aims to measure the quality of citronella oil by observing its dielectric characteristics, especially the capacitance value, at various concentrations of geraniol compounds contained in the oil. The test method involves using a capacitor plate connected by a clamp to the LCR meter connector to analyze the dielectric characteristics in the 100-2000 Hz frequency range. The research results revealed that the overall dielectric characteristics of citronella oil showed an exponential decrease in capacitance values in the frequency range of 100-2000 Hz. The same thing happened to the dielectric constant value for each variation of geraniol concentration in citronella oil. These findings have important implications in the citronella oil industry because they can be used as an effective method to measure and monitor the quality of citronella oil quickly and accurately. In addition, this research provides further insight into the relationship between geraniol compound content and the dielectric characteristics of citronella oil. This knowledge can be used to increase the production and quality of citronella oil in industries that require high-quality raw materials.
