The book focuses on helping teachers and learners move beyond memorizing language materials toward meaningful learning, critical thinking, creativity, reflection, collaboration, and the ability to use English in real-life situations.

The book begins by introducing the concept of deep learning and explaining the shift from surface learning to deeper understanding. It presents several learning theories that support deep learning, including constructivism, meaningful learning, experiential learning, sociocultural theory, metacognitive learning, higher-order thinking, and student-centered learning. These perspectives help readers understand how students can become more active, independent, and responsible in their learning.

The book then discusses how deep learning can be included in curriculum and syllabus design. It highlights the importance of connecting learning outcomes, teaching materials, classroom activities, teaching methods, and assessment. Different forms of assessment, such as formative assessment, feedback, projects, portfolios, performance-based assessment, self-assessment, and peer assessment, are also discussed as ways to support students' learning and development.

Another important part of the book is reflection. Both teachers and learners are encouraged to reflect on their learning experiences. Reflection can help teachers improve their teaching practices and help students understand their progress, difficulties, and learning needs. The book also provides practical considerations for applying deep learning in Indonesian EFL classrooms, including teacher readiness, classroom conditions, learning resources, technology, institutional support, and professional development.

The book pays special attention to culture, inclusion, and equity. Indonesian learners come from different cultural, linguistic, social, and educational backgrounds. Therefore, English learning should recognize learners' identities, local knowledge, and real-life experiences. The book encourages culturally responsive and inclusive learning that gives all students opportunities to participate and learn according to their needs and circumstances.

Finally, the book discusses how deep learning can be sustained through cooperation among teachers, learners, schools, universities, communities, educational leaders, and policymakers. Technology, professional development, reflective practice, collaboration, and institutional support are important in creating a sustainable learning environment.

Organized into nine interconnected chapters, this handbook combines theory, practical teaching strategies, assessment approaches, reflection, and contextual considerations. Ultimately, the book emphasizes that successful English learning is not only about remembering vocabulary, grammar, or information. It is about helping learners understand, use, think critically, create, reflect, and connect English with their everyday lives. Through deep learning, English education in Indonesia can become more meaningful, inclusive, relevant, and sustainable, while preparing learners to become independent, adaptable, and lifelong learners.

https://pdki-indonesia.dgip.go.id/search?type=hakcipta&keyword=EC002026183351
2026-09-25T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 PT.JNDI
