LITERATURE STUDY: INSTITUTING LITERACY CAN INCREASE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' INTEREST IN READING
Abstract
This study aims to examine the instillation of literacy in increasing reading interest in elementary school students through a literature study approach. Using data collection and analysis methods from various library sources, such as books, journals, and scientific articles, this study discusses factors that influence students' reading interest, the role of the school and family environment, and effective strategies in fostering a culture of literacy. The results of this study indicate that systematic reading habits, including through the provision of reading corners in the classroom and the application of literacy-based learning methods, are very effective in increasing reading interest in elementary school students. Supporting factors such as adequate facilities and environmental encouragement play an important role, while obstacles to access to reading materials and lack of motivation remain challenges. This study recommends the development of integrated literacy in the school and family environment as a primary strategy to increase students' reading interest to support optimal academic and cognitive development.
