Abstract

Social media gives people the ability to reach a global audience, providing a means of connectivity to seek information, socialize, and influence. Unfortunately, its existence also opens up opportunities for privacy and security violations of users' personal data. The millennial generation, known as the “always connected” generation, is the main target for a lack of awareness of the importance of security and privacy procedures. The unique characteristics of the millennial generation, such as the tendency to share data through various online devices and media convergence, increase the risk of digital threats. Therefore, the condition of cyber security vulnerabilities and the extent of understanding of these threats are interesting issues to research. This research aims to identify the digital literacy conditions of social media users among the millennial generation. The methods used in this research involve surveys, interviews and observations. Analysis of digital literacy data in the millennial generation was carried out using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The research results show that the length of use of social media does not affect the level of social media literacy. Users who have experienced threats tend to be more aware of increasing the security level of their social media accounts and are more vigilant before providing access to personal devices. Individuals who are more aware of password settings generally have higher levels of awareness, as reflected in their intention to behave securely when using social media. In conclusion, a better understanding of cyber security threats can increase the digital literacy of the millennial generation in using social media.
